Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has denied any contact with Premier League giants Arsenal over the sale of Argentine hitman Gonzalo Higuain.
The centre forward has been heavily linked to the Gunners all summer but despite an offer of £23m circling, Perez has quashed any such thing.
25-year-old Higuain has spent seven years at the Bernabeu netting an impressive 122 goals in 266 games. However, in recent months Higuain has not shied away from the fact that he wishes to move on and explore new challenges.
The Argentine international has had a stop start career in Madrid, used sparingly in the last few seasons, Higuain has struggled to impose himself as Real's main striker. Frenchman Karim Benzema, like the French-born Argentine has been drafted in and out of the team, stalling the progress of both forwards.
Higuain has made it public that he wishes to seek pastures new in search of a regular centre forward role and in Arsenal, he may have found his destination. But Perez has rebuffed any claims that the deal is done.
"We don't want Higuain to leave," the 66-year-old told Univison.
"What's more no-one from Arsenal has come to us and made us any offers at all for him. There are no offers on the table."
Any deal for the former River Plate goal machine would shatter Arsenal's transfer record. The usually shrewd business-minded Arsene Wenger is believed to be weighing up some big money signings this summer, with over £70m thought to be at the Arsenal boss' disposal.
Luis Saurez and Wayne Rooney are two other big names being linked with a move to the Emirates. Yet anyone that presumed the deal for Higuain to be virtually sewn up may have to think again.
