Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabaar has taken to Facebook to criticise the decision of Dwight Howard to reject Los Angeles in favour of a move to the Houston Rockets.

Howard controversially joined the Rockets in the free agent market despite being offered a more lucrative contract to stay with the Lakers, with a higher fee after tax reported to be the reason for center's decision.

The 27-year-old has been publicly slammed by ex-Lakers superstar Shaquille O'Neal for turning his back on LA, while Kobe Bryant took the decision to unfollow his former teammate on Twitter.

Abdul-Jabaar has now joined the growing list of current players and former stars to have jumped on the Howard bandwagon, with the veteran suggesting the Lakers are better off without the now reviled former Olympic gold medalist.

The 66-year-old has also backed Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak to adequately replace Howard during the free agent market.

He posted on his official Facebook page: "Dwight Howard is a perfect example of the fact that "potential has a shelf life."

"Laker fans should be patient and allow Mitch & company to prepare themselves to do some serious work in the free agent market."
