Arsenal are reported to be ready to make a formal approach to secure the services of Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar before the summer transfer deadline.

According to Metro, the Gunners are set to test the resolve of QPR to keep the Brazil international following their relegation from the Premier League, with the north London club planning a bid of around £1.5 million.

Arsenal's apparent pursuit of a new first-choice 'keeper has been well-documented, with Arsene Wenger reported to have grown frustrated with the inconsistent form of current No.1 Wojciech Szczesny.

The young Pole lost his position to compatriot Lukasz Fabianski last term, and only an unfortunate injury to the later enable Szczesny to regain his place before the end of the season.

The Gunners have been linked with the likes of Barcelona's Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina of Liverpool, but Cesar appears to be the most likely to move to the Emirates Stadium during the transfer window.

QPR are keen to remove the 33-year-old from their wage bill after their drop to the Championship, with Cesar reported to earning around £70,000-per-week at Loftus Road.

Regardless of his team's relegation, Cesar impressed during his maiden campaign in the Premier League and ended the season as one of the only QPR players to emerge with any credit.
