Veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has become Jose Mourinho’s third signing of the summer at Chelsea after agreeing a one-year deal.
The Australian became a free agent at the end of the 2012/13 Premier League season after turning down a new contract offer at Fulham.
Schwarzer said: “It’s one of the biggest and best clubs in the world and it’s an honour to sign for Chelsea.
“I didn’t take much convincing to come here.
“I’ve spoken to the manager at Chelsea and it was very easy to make the decision that Chelsea was the right club for me.”
The 40-year-old comes in with a wealth of experience in the English top-flight and was the first overseas to make 500 appearances in the top division.
He moved to England in 1996 signing for Bradford City before later joining Middlesbrough, going on to play over 400 times and winning the League Cup with them in 2003.
11 years later, the Sydney-born stopper switched the north for the south and joined the Cottagers in time for the 2008/09 season.
The Australian international will provide competition to Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea look to reclaim the Premier League title, which was last won under Carlo Ancelotti in 2009/10.
As stated, he follows Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel and Germany international forward Andre Schurrle through the door at Chelsea this summer.
