Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriguez and as many as 20 other players could be facing bans for using performance enhancing drugs, ESPN have confirmed.
Milwaukee Brewers player Braun, who has always denied any involvement, refused to answer questions at a meeting that took place on June 29, and it has been confirmed that he is one of several players linked to a biogenesis clinic in Miami
Anthony Bosch handed over information on the players to the MLB, and others to have been named are Melky Cabrera, Nelson Cruz and Francisco Cervelli.
Braun previously failed a drugs test in 2011, but an arbitrator overturned his suspension.
Sources have said the commissioners office are considering 100 game bans for those involved, which would be the punishment for a second drugs related offence, though both Braun and New York Yankees third baseman Rodriguez have not been found guilty of any drug offence before.
The argument would be that they and other players used the drugs on more than one occasion, and thus committed multiple offences.
Bosch's attorneys have met with the MLB on numerous occasions, where they have handed over phone, text and e-mail records.
Rodriguez, who has been playing in the minor league while recovering from a hip injury, said he has no knowledge of a scheduled meeting.
When asked about such an occasion taking place, he said: "Not that I know of, and if I knew, I couldn't share with you guys.
"We've been fully instructed to not comment on that case."
Rodriguez did shed light on more players being questioned, however.
"There's a lot of players involved, I know that," he said.
