Arsenal are reported to be considering a bid for Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, who has also been attracting interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid.

According to Sky Sports, the Gunners are in the market for a new defensive midfielder, and have identified the 20-year-old as a potential acquisition.

Arsenal have also been linked with Gareth Barry of Manchester City in their apparent pursuit of a holding midfield player, but could yet formalise their interest in Kondogbia.

The Gunners have seemingly been handed a boost in the race to sign Kondogbia as Real Madrid focus their attention on the recruitment of Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad.

Madrid are closing in on a deal for the young Spaniard, meaning their interest in Kondogbia has cooled, and Arsenal now seem to be among the leading candidates to sign the latter.

Sevilla's failure to claim a place in European competition for next season means they may be unable to retain the services of some of their most coveted players, of which Kondogbia is one of them.

Were Kondogbia to join Arsenal before the transfer deadline, he would be the second France under-20 star to arrive at the Emirates Stadium following the signing of Yaya Sanogo.
