The New England Patriots are ‘extremely disappointed’ to hear of Alfonzo Dennard’s arrest for DUI.

Just weeks after Aaron Hernandez was charged with murder and released by the franchise, Dennard has put the Patriots back in the spotlight for non-football reasons once again.

"The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard’s arrest,” read a statement on their official website.

“We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident."

Lincoln Police Department spokeswoman Katie Flood confirmed to the official NFL website that Dennard, a 23-year-old cornerback, was arrested for driving under the influence.

He was stopped just before 2am CT, after a police sergeant observed a red Honda Accord sedan straddling between lines on the road.

Flood went on to say that the individual emitted an odor of alcohol and displayed signs of impairment in her statement. After being transported to Cornhusker Place, Dennard would not provide an adequate breath test.

He was subsequently cited and released, and will now face a court date on August 12th.

The Patriots took a gamble on Dennard with their seventh round pick in the 2012 draft, after the former Nebraska college star was found guilty of felony assault on a police officer and resisting arrest just months before.

He was projected to start for Bill Belichick’s side next season, but following the Hernandez situation and this latest incident, that scenario could change.
