Red Bull Racing will change the design of its current wheel guns for the Hungarian Grand Prix following Mark Webber's first pit-stop during last Sunday's German Grand Prix.
Webber was released from his pit box during the 60-lap German Grand Prix with a loose wheel that proceeded to roll down the pit lane, hitting Formula 1 Management TV cameraman Paul Allen and resulted in a fractured collarbone and two broken ribs.
Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko said to Austrian TV station Servus that human error was to blame for Sunday's pit lane incident.
"On every wheel gun we have a button that gets pressed to give the car the signal to drive away.
As the tyre didn't stay on correctly, the mechanic tried it again and with more pressure, but something happened to the wheel gun and the button got pushed," Marko said on Tuesday.
"I'm sure we will have a system in place for Budapest that excludes these kind of human errors."
Following the incident the FIA announced an alteration to current regulation that allowed TV crews to move freely throughout the pit lane during an event.
From the Hungarian Grand Prix in three weeks time TV crews will be required to film from the pit wall.
The Red Bull Racing pit procedure is controlled by a number of confirmation lights, each one controlled by a member of the pit crew working on each corner of the car. When a tyre has been fitted correctly, each mechanic presses a confirmation button located on the wheel gun to signal to the driver that the wheel has been fitted.
The team last released a car onto the track with an improperly fitted wheel, again Mark Webber, during April's Chinese Grand Prix.
