Real Madrid's signing of Asier Illarramendi has shocked a few people in the footballing world.
Despite having an excellent Under-21 European Championship, where he played every game, Illarramendi is still a big risk at such a young age.
Real Madrid met Real Sociedad's buyout clause, believed to be around £32.8million, a big risk for a player who is yet to prove themselves at the highest level.
Madrid themselves see him as a long-term replacement for Xabi Alonso, 31, who has been linked with a move back to the Premier League.
Illarramendi told SkySports: "It hasn't been an easy decision; it has been very difficult for me because Real Sociedad have given me so much."
Sociedad achieved a fourth place finish in Primera Liga last season thanks to Asier Illaramendi and their president told SkySports: "We have a very important year ahead of us with a young coach (Jagoba Arrasate) and we wanted all our players to stay."
Illarramendi is one of the most exciting players in La Liga right now, but many have seen the £32.8million fee as desperation from Real Madrid who seem to be willing to spend anything to win back the league title.
They also announced the signing of Isco during this summer’s transfer window, who is another young player they bought for a hefty transfer fee of £23million.
There is a chance that Illarramendi and Isco could become the best in the world but it is hard to tell whether they will be wonderkids or flops at this early stage in their careers.
