Fans of Europe’s more prestigious leagues still have a bit of waiting to do before the season gets under way, but Ukraine Premier League fans have already got their first fix – they were treated to a beauty of an opener too.
Tavriya were hosting rivals Zorya in Simferopol for the first match of the season and it was a tight affair until one Dmytro Khomchenovskiy broke it open with a piece of sublime play.
The 23-year-old picked up the ball on the half way line with a little under half an hour gone and surged forward into the opposition half.
Ivory Coast striker Yannick Boli was on hand to play a one-two to take Khomchenovskiy around a trailing defender and infield.
The midfielder took a touch and curled a delightful finish into the far top corner to give his side the lead.
It was a beautiful goal and a fitting way to kick off a league season – shout out to 101 Great Goals for flagging it up.
Zorya went on win the match 2-0 and it was Khomchenovskiy who got the second too, late on in the match.
