Liverpool defender target Martin Montoya is set to be offered a new contract at Barcelona, according to reports.

TalkSPORT claims the 22-year-old, who has spent his entire career at Barca after graduating from the La Masia academy, is wanted by clubs in the Premier League.

And, with just 12 months left on his current deal, the Spanish U21 international is to be rewarded for his progression at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova believes the youngster can challenge Dani Alves for first-team chances in the coming years, and can build on the 15 senior appearances made in La Liga last season.

If a new deal is struck, then the interest of both Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen will be extinguished.

The Reds have been linked with Montoya on a number of occasions in the past, with Brendan Rodgers a reported admirer.

Liverpool have Glen Johnson as their first-choice right back, but Montoya would provide strong competition for a starting spot if lured to Merseyside.

However, it appears the player’s future is set to be in Catalonia.
