Cesc Fabregas departure unlikely

Barcelona are reportedly unlikely to sell Cesc Fabregas to Manchester United before the transfer deadline after the Premier League champions made a formal approach for the ex-Arsenal captain.

Manchester United have bid €30 million in the hope of securing the services of Fabregas but, reports The Independent, it is doubtful Barcelona would consider selling the player this summer.

Barcelona have already allowed Thiago Alcantara, who was tracked by Manchester United, to leave for Bayern Munich, and would be reluctant to part with another creative midfielder in such quick succession.

Fabregas would favour staying with Barcelona and would only consider leaving the Camp Nou were the club willing to sell, but that scenario appears unlikely, despite the interest of Manchester United.

David Moyes has identified the acquisition of a midfielder as transfer window priority, but may find himself disappointed by Barcelona for a second time should Fabregas remain with the Primera Division champions.

Fabregas, although not deemed a failure with Barcelona, has yet to have the impact with the club that was hoped when he transferred from Arsenal in the summer of 2011, after a drawn out process.

The 26-year-old has made 96 appearances for Barcelona in his two seasons in Catalonia, but often found himself overlooked for last term's most important matches, and is rarely used in his favoured central midfield position.

Neymar's arrival at Barcelona appeared to raise questions about Fabregas' long-term future with the club, although Tito Vilanova has no immediate plans to sell the player, who harbours no strong desire to quit.

"I know he has received offers from other teams," Vilanova told reporters.

"But Cesc has told me he wants to stay here. He has told me it is his dream to stay with Barcelona."
