Greg Oden will has held talks with the Dallas Mavericks, and will also meet with the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans this week.
The center met with the Mavericks on Monday, as they joined the race with the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat for his services.
He is currently a free-agent after leaving the Portland Trail Blazers in 2012.
It had been reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers also wanted to sign the 27-year-old, but after they completed the signing of Andrew Bynum last week, they withdrew their interest.
Oden hasn't played in the NBA since 2009, as injury forced out for the last two-and-a-half years, and he will be returning from his third micro-fracture knee surgery.
He was the top overall pick in the 2007 draft out of Ohio state, and the Mavericks are planning to add him to their roster, along with Samuel Dalembert, who recently left the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Spurs and the Heat remain the two frontrunners for his signature, but he is as of yet undecided on his future.
