Whether it be Gianfranco Zola or, more recently, Ivorian legend Didier Drogba - Chelsea have always had a marquee man operating their front-line.
But, with the opening of the 2013/14 season beckoning on us, who will Mourinho favour in his new look Chelsea side?
Will it be Romelu Lukaku, Fernando Torres or Demba Ba?
The Belgian has always looked up to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and insists he can emulate the glory that Didier brought to the Chelsea faithful.
Drogba shone in the Premier League and proved to be one of world's best forwards.
Lukaku enjoyed a fantastic season long spell at West Brom scoring over 15 league goals and helping his side to a very healthy eighth place finish in the Premier League.
Whilst Lukaku was flourishing at West Brom, the Blues were struggling for consistent fire power in front of goal, and often mulled on whether to re-call the Belgian machine or not.
Mourinho had stated that Romelu is part of his plans at the Bridge and insists that Lukaku is key to success at Chelsea.
The Spaniard hasn't really ever looked himself in a Chelsea shirt after his £50m move from Premier League rivals Liverpool in 2011. Fernando was one of Europe's hottest properties previous to his big money move but really flopped under the leadership of Ancelloti.
Torres showed his form towards the end of last season finishing top score in the Europa League and helping his side to consecutive European trophies, but with a move away from Stamford Bridge always being spoke about, can Torres really prove himself under Jose Mourinho or will he be sidelined by the talent already at the Portuguese internationals disposal?
Ba showed fantastic form when he joined Chelsea in January 2013 and has really flourished at the Blues.
But can he hold a key role down in Mourinho' set up? On-going talks insist that Jose Mourinho is looking to bring a forward into stamford bridge and Ba may be the next to bite the dust at the London outfit.
The Senegalese international may even be used as a make-weigh in a potential deal for a striker across Europe.
But, if Ba has his chance, expect him to show his consistent goalscoring form than he showed the Chelsea faithful last campaign.
