Chelsea and Manchester City are the latest Premier League clubs to be linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

The Spain star has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent days, with Sky Sports reporting that Manchester United tabled an opening bid of £25million for the player on Monday.

That has forced Arsenal to consider their options, with Arsene Wenger having first refusal on his former captain if he wants to bring the 26-year-old back to the Emirates Stadium.

And, the website claims this initial interest has also alerted both the Blues and Citizens over the player, who already has 83-caps to his name with La Roja.

Both clubs also got a close look at the player last season with the help of their new managers, with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and Manuel Pellegrini at Malaga.

‘The Special One’ returns to Stamford Bridge having guided Chelsea through their most successful spell during his first stint in west London.

He’ll hope to achieve similar results this time around after replacing Rafa Benitez, and Fabregas would certainly add more quality to a Blues midfield already bulging with talent.

Juan Mata, Oscar, Eden Hazard, Frank Lampard and Ramires are already at the Chelsea manager’s disposal.

The options aren’t quite as plentiful at Manchester City, although Pellegrini does have David Silva, Yaya Toure, Jesus Navas and Samir Nasri at his disposal.

Fabregas would be the jewel in the crown at the Etihad Stadium, and also provide a transfer coup over some of the club’s great rivals.

For all the interest, however, his future could well lie at the Nou Camp, with Tito Vilanova claiming the player wants to stay with the Blaugrana.

"I'm aware there have been offers, I had a conversation with him and he told me that he wanted to continue here and that he didn't want to go to another big club. He wants to succeed here,” said the Barca boss.
