The left-back spot for Tottenham has been put into question, due to the unreliability at times of Benoit Assou-Ekotto.
During last season, Andre Villas-Boas was more than occasionally playing Jan Vertonghen in Assou-Ekotto’s place, even when he was fully-fit.
This was shown by the fact that he only started 12 games last term.
Spurs clearly need a replacement, Fabio Coentrao has been spoken about a lot in the last couple of days, for a fee reported to be around about £7 million, to play under his Portuguese compatriot AVB.
Patrice Evra could be an option, but it would only be a short term target, as he is already 32-years-old.
From my perspective, Villas-Boas should avoid a fee like that and put the money towards a good central striker.
Spurs might not have to look as far away from White Hart Lane for an alternative as some may think.
Everyone remember Danny Rose?
The wonderkid on his debut who scored that sensational 30 yard volley in the north London derby a few season back, to help push Spurs' Champions League charge.
He has recently come back from a very successful season-long loan at the Stadium of Light, and has just undergone surgery on a wrist injury in May of this year.
Making 27 appearances in the league (only two of which came as a substitute), and gaining invaluable premier league experience in the process. Rose possesses blistering speed, as well as a peach of a left foot, along with other attributes.
The question is, could next season be the turning point in his career?
