Chelsea's new £8 million signing, 20-year-old Marco Van Ginkel, has stated in an interview with Sky Sports that he wants to be starring for Mourinho's Chelsea side this season.
Talking before Chelsea's latest pre-season match against the Malaysian XI, the young Dutchman, who plays as a midfielder, expressed his intention to play a major role in Mourinho's team and to also stake his claim with the Dutch international team for the World Cup next year.
Van Ginkel, who started his career in the Eredivisie with Vitesse Arnhem prior to moving across the Channel to West London, has already been capped once by the senior Dutch international squad, when he came on as a late substitute in a friendly with Germany in November last year.
The 20-year-old who scored 18 goals in 93 League appearances over a three year period with Vitesse Arnhem, is part of a young group of players within the Chelsea squad that Mourinho, as reported by the Independent, is keen to 'educate'.
This current crop of youth which includes fellow newcomer Andre Schurrle and powerhouse Romelu Lukaku fresh from a successful loan spell at West Brom, where he scored 17 League goals, is seen by many to be the future of Chelsea.
Van Ginkel is likely to be the axis of the future Chelsea team, as he described himself as a 'box-to-box' midfielder. However, the Dutch starlet may find it difficult to impose himself on to a teamsheet that already has the names of similarly styled and proven players, including the Brazilian midfielder Ramires.
Clearly Van Ginkel has no such worries, as he stated later on in the interview that he is sure that, if he plays "a lot of games" and plays well, the Dutchman from Chelsea will be flying to Rio.
