Chelsea striker Demba Ba has emerged as a target for Napoli, who are also set to complete the transfer of Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.

Higuain is closing in on a switch to Napoli after a €37 million deal was struck between the Italian side and Real Madrid and, according to the Daily Star, Ba could now follow the Argentina international to the Stadio San Paolo.

The 28-year-old Senegal striker was the only signing made by Rafael Benitez during his interim tenure at Chelsea, and Ba could now be set to follow his former manager out of Stamford Bridge.

Ba failed to live up to expectation at Chelsea last season after his move from Newcastle in the January transfer window, scoring only two goals during 14 Premier League appearances for the west London club.

The departure of Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain last week has led Napoli to enter the market for goalscoring reinforcements, and the Serie A club could now test the resolve of Chelsea to keep Ba.

Despite his relative failure at Stamford Bridge, Ba has established himself as a goalscorer of some repute during his time in English football, having found the net 29 times for Newcastle during one and a half seasons in the north east.

Along with Napoli, Ba has also been linked with a transfer back to West Ham, for whom he scored seven goals in only 13 games.
