Neymar has admitted that he shaves his legs and enjoys shopping but denied his liking for grooming made him akin to David Beckham – he also admitted to diving.

There has been a great deal of attention on Neymar since he made a £49million move to Barcelona from Santos this summer and in an interview with Surface magazine he admitted he liked looking after his appearance.

Neymar has been known to sport the odd outlandish haircut or two, but he does not believe his liking for new fragrances and shaving his legs makes him a metrosexual like David Beckham.

Metrosexual is a term coined in the 1990s to describe a heterosexual man that takes great interest in his appearance and will spend significant amounts on grooming products – David Beckham was often described as the epitome of a Metrosexual.

“Yes, it is true that I like to go out and buy new clothes, nice perfumes and hair products. I also shave my legs for example," Neymar told Surface.

"I do not see myself as a metrosexual, though. That was more something for Beckham, who was more stylish.

"I might be a bit pretentious, but I don't see that as a problem.”

Neymar did not only make revelations about his personal life, he also admitted to doing a bit of acting, though this was done on the football pitch.

A number of football fans have criticised the 21-year-old for going to ground too easily, but he insisted he did so in the interests of self-preservation.

"I occasionally jump and dive, but only to protect myself. I want to make sure that defenders cannot injure me,” he added.
