Tottenham are in the running for Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches, according to TalkSPORT.

The 23-year-old has attracted the interest of some of Europe's top clubs before, including Liverpool and Roma.

However Spurs could be about to make a move for the classy gal-playing defender, with reports in Romania suggesting they will hold talks wight he player's agent.

Spurs let William Gallas leave this summer and could be in the market for a new centre-back, especially if they let Steven Caulker leave to join Cardiff, who are said to be interested in securing his services.

Despite their reported interest, Tottenham's most pressing concern is to deal with Gareth Bale's potential move to Real Madrid, which is in danger of getting out of control.

Real Madrid are said to be closing in on the Welshman and are believed to be ready to offer a world record transfer fee in excess of £80 million.

Spurs are also looking to close out the signing of striker Robert Soldado from Valencia.
