Liverpool have not made a bid for Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Schalke claim, although the German club would consider any potential offer for the youngster.

Speculation has intensified in recent days that Liverpool are prepared to formalise their interest in the 21-year-old, with suggestions £13 million would be enough to secure his signature.

Schalke, however, maintain there has yet to be an approach from Liverpool and, although Papadopoulos is highly-regarded by the club, general manager Horst Heldt has hinted that every player has their price.

"We have no offer for Papadopoulos. Neither from Liverpool or some other club," Heldt told reporters.

"On the contrary: we are very happy that 'Papa' is making progress [following injury] and can be back soon, hopefully. We're planning with him.

"If we receive an offer for him, we will come together and talk about that as we do with every player for us."

The retirement of Jamie Carragher at the end of last season has led Liverpool to enter the market for defensive reinforcements, with Kolo Toure already having been acquired from Manchester City.

Brendan Rodgers, however, appears keen to recruit further options at centre-back, with Papadopoulos seemingly one of the key targets identified by the Liverpool boss.

The player joined Schalke from Olimpiacos in the summer transfer window of 2010 and has since made 92 appearances for the Bundesliga club, during which time he has scored seven goals.
