Manchester City edge eight-goal thriller against AC Milan

Manchester City claimed an extraordinary 5-3 victory in a pre-season friendly against AC Milan yesterday - with all eight goals coming in the first half.

The opening game of the Audi Cup between the two giants of European football in Munich promised to be a belter and it disappoint as the Citizens raced into a commanding lead.

David Silva rounded off a lovely move to open the scoring early on before Micah Richards doubled his side's lead.

The game appeared over when Aleksander Kolarov slotted home and then it threatened to turn into a rout when Dzeko followed up his simple tap in with a sensational volley to make it 5-0.

Usually at this point it takes a rousing half-time team talk to turn things around but the Milan players saved boss Massimiliano  Allegri the trouble by fighting back before the first 45 minutes were even up.

Stephan El Shaarawy made it 5-2 in the blink of an eye before Andrea Petagna narrowed the gap even further.

Sadly the Rossoneri couldn't use the next 55 minutes or so in the game to pull themselves level and it was Manchester City who secured a place in the final against Bayern Munich, who beat Sao Paulo 2-1 later on.

However it just goes to show that the old saying is right, 5-0 is the most dangerous scoreline in football….
