Bernard not motivated by money

Tottenham and Arsenal transfer target Bernard is not motivated by money, according to the player himself.

The Brazil star is widely expected to leave Atletico Mineiro this summer, with Spurs, Arsenal, Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk all strongly linked.

The Ukrainian champions are thought to be leading the chase, with reports claiming a £20m deal has been agreed between the two parties.

But Bernard insists he's not motivated by earning a big pay day, and money won't play a big role in the decision over his future.

"I have given myself time to think, but money isn't everything in life," Bernard told Lancnet on Wednesday.

"I want to be happy and if that means staying in a place earning less money, then that's what I want."

"I have made it clear that I want to stay, but the pressure is big from all sides. I have to sleep with this weight. I ask God to guide me somewhere.

"It's a lot of pressure and speculation. It's annoying. I have to talk about this every time, this is all I have been thinking about. That affects me on the pitch, but God controls everything and He is seeing what will be my future."

The Brazilian international found the net against Atletico Paranaense this week, but received a second yellow card for his celebrations and was sent off.

The report claims Bernard is thought to favour a move to Porto over Shakhtar - should Mineiro decide to cash in on their star 20-year-old winger.

And Mineiro's manager Cuca appeared to confirm that it is the club's plan to sell the attacker sooner rather than later.

"He will travel [abroad], will do his stuff. I am not the one who has to say this, he did his job, it's very hard and almost impossible he stays here."
