In recent weeks, speculation has linked Gareth Bale with a move away from his club, Tottenham, with many touting Real Madrid as the favourites to get the Welshman's signature.
Here is my take on why Gareth Bale shouldn't move away from north London, you don't have to agree...
Yes, Real Madrid is definitely a bigger club than Tottenham. However, one has to realise that there will definitely be greater competition for places.
Real Madrid have great wingers and midfielders in their team, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil. Even Luka Modric has to regularly settle for a place on the bench.
Therefore, Bale may not be an automatic choice for first-team selection every single time.
At Tottenham, Bale is the star man. He is the centre of the team, and he knows that the team is depending on him. Over at Real Madrid, especially if Ronaldo stays at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Welsh winger may have to settle for a place out of the spotlight.
Secondly, the style of play in La Liga and Real Madrid is vastly different from the style of play in the Premier League as well as Tottenham's style of play. Thus, there is no assurance that Bale will be able to fit seamlessly into the Real Madrid side.
Like Modric, Bale may not be able to adapt to the difference in the style of play in La Liga, where build-up play is slower and there is more emphasis on short passes, unlike the physicality of the English game and the numerous long balls played down the channels.
Bale's game may be more suited to the Premier League, as shown in his past few seasons with Tottenham, where he has thrived, scoring 21 goals and creating eight assists in the 2012/13 season.
He may still in the end opt for a move, but it may be wiser for Gareth to consider staying put in north London.
