Free agent center Greg Oden could announce which team he intends to join today, according to reports from ESPN.
25-year-old Oden, who was selected by the Portland Trailblazers with the first overall pick of the 2007 draft, hasn't featured in the NBA since December 2009 after suffering a series of persistent and devastating knee injuries that have totally de-railed his career.
Those aforementioned injuries forced Oden to miss the entire 2007-08 season and he featured in just 82 subsequent games for the Blazers, who were eventually forced to waive him in March 2012. Oden sat out the 2012-13 season in order to concentrate on his rehabilitation.
Reigning NBA champions Miami Heat are believed to be the favourites to land the Ohio State product, although the Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs are rumoured to be the other teams in contention.
The Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks were also keen to acquire Oden, but ESPN sources have indicated that they are no longer in the running for his signature.
In-demand Oden was also reportedly attracting interest from the Clevaland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies, but none of the trio committed to making him a formal contract offer.
