With Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial fast approaching, one Manchester United fan has decided to pay tribute to the centre-back – and received a surprise thank you from the defender himself.

Twitter user @aditya_reds put together the video above as a special tribute to Ferdinand ahead of Friday’s testimonial against Sevilla at Old Trafford.

The 34-year-old centre-back is celebrating over a decade of football at the Theatre of Dreams – a period that’s seen United win Premier League titles, a Champions League and a Club World Cup.

He’s been an ever present in the Manchester United back-line ever since Sir Alex Ferguson splashed the cash to bring him over the Pennines from Leeds United.

And, alongside some of his current and former teammates, Ferdinand will lead out United against the Spanish side two days before the Premier League champions face Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield.

Before that though, enjoy this Ferdinand tribute video – because the player himself certainly did. The United defender has more than four million followers on Twitter, and he now follows @aditya_reds after watching the 2minute 37second clip.

@aditya_reds Tweeted: “OOOHHHHHH MY GODDDDDDD, did @rioferdy5 just follow me...I am going to die of happiness.”

He's part of the first ever Manchester United supporters group in India - and you can join too by visiting

Ferdinand will be providing details about his testimonial match on his official Facebook page all through next week, and if you want to get tickets for the match, visit

Good work @aditya_reds!
