It's a topic guaranteed to spark intense debate: who are currently the best young players in Europe?

Well, Spanish newspaper Sport have boldly published a definitive list of the top 50 starlets on the continent - although they weren't quite brave enough to rank them in order, saving themselves hundreds of angry comments from incensed fans. Or not.

To qualify for the list, players must be born after January 1, 1990 and play for a European club.

Most of the names you'd expect to be on the list appear do: Isco, who completed his £23m to Real Madrid from Malaga is included; Thiago Alcantara, Bayern Munich's £22m new man features, while PSG's €35m summer acquisition Marquinhos also makes an appearance.

Other household names include AC Milan star Mario Balotelli, Bayern Munich new boy Mario Gotze and Real Madrid's Raphael Varane.

A whole host of Premier League players are also included. Among the most notable include Arsenal's Jack Wilshere, Chelsea duo Eden Hazard and Oscar,  Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, and Liverpool's Raheem Sterling.

Luke Shaw, the impressive young Southampton left-back is also there, as are Tottenham's Lewis Holtby and Everton's Gerard Deulofeu, who will spend the season on loan from Barcelona.
