Due to the growing speculation and hype about Bale and the world record bid on the table, it seems many of us have forgotten about the void that will be left to fill should he leave.
£85million for any player is a very bold statement and the Galacticos' ambition has left Daniel Levy and Andre Villas-Boas in a rather strange situation.
In the grand scheme of things, UEFA Champions League qualification is imperative both for clubs and individual stars- like Gareth Bale.
Tottenham not only have arguably the biggest club in the world after their main man, but also are without the allure of the elite club competition this season, leaving players like Bale in the knowledge that there are better teams available.
The Champions League is the best club competition in the world and when you are not competing in it, it is very hard to attract and keep top players.
If Bale is sold for a world record price and if Levy decides to reinvest in the team, top quality players available that would be content to not play in the Champions League are extremely scarce.
There is the argument that it would be easy for Spurs to attract players with their new found funds, by paying higher wages (like Monaco have) and Spurs can still compete for the top four.
However within saying that Tottenham Hotspur will certainly not be the only team with big money- not forgetting to mention the likes of PSG, Man City and modern day Napoli who have not been afraid to spend with acquisitions such as Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon.
The competition for signings will be hard enough against clubs participating in the Champions League, but it seems Gareth Bale's imminent departure will soon terminate Tottenham's hopes of Champions League qualification for next seasons competition.
