Newly-relegated sides such as Queens Park Rangers and Wigan Athletic have been making big signings as they gear up for a lengthy campaign in the Sky Bet Championship this season - but they are not alone.
Looking to finally make a triumphant return to the Premier League, clubs including Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest have also splashed out on some top players.
Here are the top five debuts after the first week of fixtures:
5. Johnny Russell – Derby County
Russell signed for the Rams in June after scoring 20 goals for Dundee United last campaign. At 23-years-old he is at the start of his career and he opened his Championship account on Sunday with a penalty against Blackburn Rovers.
4. Alex Baptiste – Bolton Wanderers
A player with Premier League experience, Alex Baptiste signed on a free transfer from Blackpool in July and made a big impact in his first game for the Trotters. The rock-solid defender helped Bolton claw back a point from Lancashire rivals Burnley on Friday night.
3. Steven Davies – Blackpool
Davies made the jump to the Tangerines this summer after being relegated to League One with Bristol City. He scored on his debut last weekend against newly promoted Doncaster Rovers as the Seasiders went on to win 3-1.
2. Leon Barnett – Wigan Athletic
Not the only Norwich City player to move to Wigan, Barnett looked fierce against 10-man Barnsley as he scored his first goal for the Latics in a 4-0 romp at Oakwell. With Premier League experience under his belt it looks as if Barnett will be a key player for the Latics this season.
1. Grant Holt – Wigan Athletic
The former Norwich City striker signed for Wigan this summer as a replacement for Everton-bound Arouna Kone and made a quick impression on his Latics debut. Finding the back of the net in a 4-0 drubbing of Barnsley it looks like Holt could be just what Wigan need to fire themselves back in the big time.
