Rio Ferdinand has promised half-time surprises ahead of his Manchester United testimonial on Friday.

David Moyes’ side welcome La Liga outfit Sevilla to Old Trafford in honour of the former England defender’s 11-year spell with the club.

However, Ferdinand revealed it would be treated as a serious pre-season match, with the Community Shield meeting with Wigan at Wembley Stadium only two days later.

There is also the fact that Manchester United begin the defence of their Premier League title the following weekend away at Swansea City.

Ferdinand did hint at something special, however, and fans turning out for the match will be excited about his half-time hints.

“There are a lot of people attending. In terms of people going on the pitch, the manager wants it to be a serious pre-season game and I think I am governed by that,” he told the official Manchester United website.

“But there will be a few surprises at half-time, I can tell you that.”

So far there has been no mention of surprise guests coming to play, but Manchester United confirmed that celebrities such as the magician Dynamo, Boris Becker, Tinchy Stryder, Wretch 32 and Olly Murs will be in attendance.

Ferdinand admitted he would be out of his comfort zone with the spotlight being on him, but insisted he wasn’t worried about it and was looking forward to the occasion.

“I’m not nervous, but obviously all of the attention is on me during the day and I’m more comfortable in a team environment because that is how I’ve grown up,” he added.

“But it will be nice to enjoy it with the fans, the people who attend and my family and friends.”

Tickets are still available for the match at Old Trafford and can be purchased through the Manchester United official website here.
