Southampton forward Rickie Lambert has earned his first international call-up, having been selected by England boss Roy Hodgson for the upcoming friendly with Scotland.
The call-up completes a remarkable story for Lambert, who was working in a beetroot factory before struggling to make a name for himself in the lower leagues of English football.
But, having proved himself on the biggest stage last season, Lambert has now earned international recognition.
Lambert has been in impressive form for Southampton and has been a key player for the south coast outfit - he was the club's top scorer last season.
Hodgson is a long-term admirer of the forward. Whilst managing Fulham, Hodgson strongly considered bringing in Lambert, who played at Bristol Rovers at the time.
Lambert has been brought into the England squad due to the fact that Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge is currently injured, as well as the new West Ham recruit, Andy Carroll.
Lambert though, is not the only name to surprise a few on the teamsheet for the friendly against Scotland - Manchester United frontman Wayne Rooney is also in the squad, despite all the issues surrounding his future, lack of game time and injury issues.
It will be interesting to see if Rooney can keep his head in the game rather than on his future, with Chelsea so desperate to land him having currently placed two bids, both of which were rejected by Manchester United.
David Moyes seems determined to either hold onto their key player, or ensure that he is not a direct threat in the race to the Premier League title by selling him abroad.
