Greg Oden's patient recovery and rehabilitation from knee injury has been rewarded with a Miami Heat contract.
The 25-year-old's move was made official on Wednesday as he signed for the reigning NBA champions, and he will hope that this move will close the book on what has been a very difficult chapter in his life.
From being the first-pick in the 2007 draft, Oden's career has gone downhill. Ravaged by knee trouble, he has had to endure treatment to repair cartilage in his left leg.
That put him out of action for a few years, before he decided to also take off the 2012/13 season to allow himself to fully regenerate. His last NBA appearance was on December 5th 2009.
Quoted on NBA.com, Oden seems very optimistic: "I am very excited and happy to be here. I'm thankful to the Miami Heat organization for bringing me in and I'm ready to get to work."
I'm sure that even non-basketball fans will be hoping that this talented player's injuries are all a part of the past now, and that he can finally fulfil his potential.
