Liverpool have rejected a £15 million bid from Barcelona for defender Daniel Agger, according to the Daily Express.
28-year-old Agger, who arrived at Liverpool from Brondby in January 2006 for a fee of approximately £6 million, did not feature in the club's comfortable 4-1 victory over Norwegian outfit Valerenga on Wednesday and has been persistently linked with a switch to the Catalan giants throughout the summer.
New Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino is believed to be keen to add at least one new central defender to his squad at the Nou Camp, with Denmark international Agger believed to be a target along with Chelsea's Brazilian maverick David Luiz.
But with their recent bid for Luiz reportedly met with a less than favourable response from the Premier League title hopefuls, it would appear that Agger has been identified as Martino's ideal candidate to fill what is arguably the only notable void in an otherwise extremely impressive first-team group.
Following the rejection of an initial offer for Agger's services, Barcelona are allegedly already preparing a second bid that could eventually total £25 million. Whether the Reds would be willing to sell such a prized asset, however, is extremely questionable considering they are now almost certain to lose unsettled Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez.
Liverpool face Neil Lennon's Celtic in Dublin on Saturday in what is their final pre-season friendly before they open their 2013/14 Premier League campaign with a home clash against Stoke City on August 17.
