Arsenal are ready to smash their wage structure by making Luis Suarez the best paid player in the club's history - if they can convince Liverpool to part with their want-away striker.

Arsene Wenger has made the Uruguayan international his top transfer target this summer, having already offered £40,000,001 in an attempt to land the 26-year-old frontman.

Liverpool have so far resisted the temptation to accept a mega-money offer for Suarez, and remain unequivocal in their stance - Suarez will not be leaving Liverpool this summer.

However, reports in Uruguay suggest Wenger is increasingly confident of landing the controversial striker, and has drawn up a four-year contract worth £160,000-a-week after tax.

The Metro have reported that Suarez currently earns around £120,000-a-week at Liverpool, having signed a new and improved contract last summer, but Arsenal are hoping to tempt the former Ajax star with a deal that will make him the highest paid player in their entire history.

Arsenal are expecting further developments on the Suarez transfer saga in the coming days, as they continue to test Liverpool's resolve.
