England manager Roy Hodgson has played down concerns over Theo Walcott's fitness, after the Arsenal forward picked up a knock in training on Monday.

The 23-year-old suffered a minor ankle injury which meant he was unable to complete the session, raising fears in north London that Walcott could miss the start of the new Premier League season.

Chelsea attacker Lucas Piazon is confident he has made the right decision in joining Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem on loan.

Piazon has become the latest Chelsea youngster to link up with Vitesse, joining Patrick van Aanholt, Gael Kakuta and Cristian Cuevas in Holland.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has played down concerns over the state of the club's defence heading into the new season.

City have boasted the best defensive record in the Premier League in each of the last two campaigns, but after conceding six goals in their last two pre-season fixtures, have come into criticism from manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Jonny Evans says David Moyes is carrying on Sir Alex Ferguson's good work, and is gradually putting his own stamp on the Manchester United team.

The central defender claims not much has changed since Ferguson's retirement earlier this summer, and says the squad is in good spirits as they begin the defence of their Premier League title next weekend.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has ruled out selling Jermain Defoe and Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer.

The futures of both players have been the subject of speculation with Spurs in the market for striking reinforcements, but Villas-Boas insists that he has no plans to offload the duo and that they are still in his long-term thoughts.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is confident Daniel Agger will stay loyal to the club despite growing interest from Barcelona.

The Spanish club are thought to have made a bid for Agger as they look to bring in a defender before the close of the transfer window.
