Jessica Ennis-Hill has been named as an ambassador for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The Olympic heptathlon gold medalist, along with boxing champions Nicola Adams, were the big names to join cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy, Beijing swim star Rebecca Adlington, comedian Billy Connolly and actor Martin Compston.
Former 100m champions Allan Wells and swimmers Michael Jamieson and David Carry have also been named in the role, as Glasgow prepares to put a million tickets on sale for next year’s event.
"Having a major Championships in Britain so soon after the Olympics in London is brilliant and to have the support of a crowd made up of all the home nations will really help us athletes achieve our best again," said Ennis-Hill, who was delighted to take up the role.
"I will never forget the roar of the crowd in London and hope that everyone goes out to buy tickets to add their support for us all once again. My goal is to add the Commonwealth gold medal to my Olympic, World and European ones — the full set would be amazing."
Ennis-Hill has been relatively inactive since claiming gold in England’s capital just over a year ago, competing in minor competitions and the Anniversary Games before deciding to pull out of the World Championships in Moscow.
The Sheffield athlete continues to struggle with an Achilles injury, but will be hoping that a lengthy period on the sidelines will help in recuperating ahead of the Commonwealth and European Championships next season.
