Manchester United have been very quiet in the transfer market so far this summer as they have struggled to land their transfer targets.
However news has broke from Old Trafford that the Red Devils are interested in signing one of two Real Madrid playmakers in the form of Mesut Ozil and Luka Modric.
Manchester United is a club that has been interested in both players in the past especially Luka Modric - who was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer but opted to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
United were interested in Mesut Ozil in the summer of 2010 after he had a sparkling World Cup in South Africa.
However, according to ESPN, information from Old Trafford sources states that Manchester United have made contact with Real Madrid about signing Modric or Ozil.
ESPN FC has also been informed that the Red Devils are keen to bring in three new players before the transfer market closes on September 2.
David Moyes is reported to be very keen to add an all round creative midfielder to the squad.
Former Everton boss Moyes was also quoted as saying that he expects to add to the squad despite already having a great group of players at his disposal.
Moyes said he has been working on transfers all summer but had to take a look at his squad to see what he has got and where he could add to it.
Manchester United have so far missed out on Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas but are still in the market to strengthen the midfield.
Marouane Fellaini has also been tipped to move to Old Trafford and Moyes seems to be in the market for a left-back as Phil Neville and Steve Round were at the Portugal vs Netherlands friendly and it is assumed that they were there to watch Fabio Coentrao.
