Dirk Kuyt 'selfie' highlights horrific head injury

It's fair to say that Dirk Kuyt has never been blessed with the greatest of looks, but the Fenerbahce midfielder's modest appearance has been hindered even further after a horrible head injury he suffered on international duty earlier this week.

The 33-year-old clashed with Swansea City midfielder Jonathan de Guzman during a routine drill whilst training with Holland's national team ahead of their friendly clash with Portugal on Wednesday.

Kuyt and De Guzman were involved in a nasty head on collision, hitting each other will full force, knocking them both off their feet and leaving them in a heap on the floor.

Both players were ruled out of Holland's 1-1 draw with Portugal at the Algarve stadium, after Kevin Strootman's close-range strike was cancelled out by a late goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.

The warm-up game will have been a good opportunity to get the Dutch players together as they prepare for their next bout of World Cup qualifiers next month, as Louis van Gaal looks to maintain the country's perfect record of six wins from six games in Group D.

The only downside, of course, will have been the nasty injuries to Kuyt and De Guzman, who will hopefully be back in contention by the time the next international squad is picked in September.

In the meantime, De Guzman has been ruled out of Swansea's Premier League opener against Manchester United on Saturday with suspected concussion, while the horrific facial injury suffered by Kuyt can be seen in the 'selfie' below.
