Chelsea target demands £300,000-a-week wages

Chelsea will need to offer Samuel Eto'o an astronomical £300,000-a-week wage packet in order to sign the Anzhi Makhachkala striker, according to the player's agent.

The Cameroon international, who previously starred for Barcelona and Inter Milan, is keen to leave his troubled Russian employers after they were hit by a major financial crisis.

But Eto'o's agent, Peppino Terri, had made it clear that his client will not be joining the Blues unless he remains the highest paid footballer in the world.

"There is interest in Samuel, we know that," Terri was quoted as saying by the Metro. "But he will not leave Anzhi for less than £300,000-a-week."

Remarkably, Eto'o would be taking a £50,000 wage cut if Chelsea are willing to meet his demands and he completes a move to Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes on September 2.

The 32-year-old joined Anzhi two years ago in a deal worth £21.8m to Inter, while the player agreed terms on a lucrative contract which saw him earn £17.9m after tax during each year of his stay.

However, there are serious doubts he could earn anywhere close to that figure elsewhere in the world - even at Stamford Bridge.
