With Arsenal getting their Champions League challenge underway this week against Fernerbahce, now seems the right time to analyse the English team's chances in this year's elite European competition.

Last season was, by all accounts, a failure for England's four Champions League contenders. Of course, Chelsea were able to win a Europa League title, however their poor attempt at defending the greatest prize was certainly not good enough.

However, the 2013/14 season presents a new challenge for the same four teams that were unable to make it into at-least the quarter-final stage last season.

European power-houses Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona will be the favourites, but England's quadrate will believe they can compete.

Here, we take a look at the four sides hoping to claim the greatest prize of them all in Lisbon in May 2014.
