When Cesc Fabregas admitted he wanted to remain in Spain, it became apparent that another one of Manchester United’s midfield targets had slipped away leaving the question: who is next for Moyes to approach?
With Thiago Alcantara, Kevin Strootman and Fabregas already either moving to other clubs or rebuffing a move to the Premier League champions it looked like United may be unable to secure their first marquee signing of the David Moyes’ era but now it seems he has identified Croatian playmaker and former Tottenham hero Luka Modric as the man to create chances for the forward line.
United are reportedly set to test Real Madrid’s resolve with an offer for a player nominated as one of the worst buys of last season. Modric seems to offer the ideal option in midfield, being able to score goals as well as having an eye for a killer pass. His considerable Premier League experience also seems an added bonus for Moyes’ men.
Moyes is also likely to return to old club Everton with a £30 million bid for Belgium bruiser Marouane Fellani and Leighton Baines as part of a double swoop. Everton are only likely to accept a bid for Fellani it exceeds the £30 million mark, with Baines also demanding an offer closer to the £20 million mark.
If United were able to sign both Fellani and Modric it would seem to make United favourites for a league title which they won in convincing circumstances last year. Should a bid for Modric fail, United could also raid Newcastle for French playmaker and Arsenal target Yohan Cabaye.
