Liverpool are set to announce the capture of Valencia defender Aly Cissokho, after the Frenchman completed a medical on Monday evening, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 25-year-old left-back will arrive on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent £4million move at the end of 2013/14.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers wants to add competition for Jose Enrique, and identified Cissokho as a player that would strengthen his defensive options at Anfield.

The one-capped France international joins the Merseyside club ahead of next weekend's Premier League trip to Villa Park, when Liverpool will hope to follow up Saturday's 1-0 victory over Stoke City with another three points against Aston Villa.

It's not yet clear whether Cissokho will go straight into Rodgers's senior squad, but as the fifth summer signing during the current transfer window, will look to make a positive impact for the club in the forthcoming season.
