FIFA Interactive World Cup winner Bruce Grannec is ready to defend his Champions Trophy title at Gamescom in Cologne tomorrow (Wednesday).

Grannec, nicknamed 'The Machine', is the red hot favourite at the showpiece event in Germany, having lifted the FIWC crown for a second time in Madrid a couple of months back. He had previously won the event in 2009.

The Frenchman also won the inaugural Champions Trophy in Vancouver last year, beating another two-time FIWC champion and fellow competitor this week - Alfonso Ramos - to lift the crown.

Despite his previous success, Grannec is taking nothing for granted ahead of tomorrow's highly-anticipated tournament, with all four competitors capable of winning on a game that is completely new to all of them.

"It was fantastic to win the special event in Vancouver last year and also in Madrid, but FIFA 14 is a new game so it is difficult to say somebody is favourite and somebody isn't," Grannec told GiveMeSport in his hotel on the eve of the competition.

"I have played some great matches with Alfonso (Ramos) in the past, and both Kai (Wollin) and Francisco (Cruz) are good players. It should be very exciting."

Wollin won the German FIWC qualifier earlier in the year, and is the home favourite in Cologne. Cruz, meanwhile, is the 2011 FIWC champion and the youngest player to ever lift the crown.

Whilst Grannec is looking forward to competing against three worthy opponents, he's also keen to put the latest EA Sports title through its paces after success on previous editions. Understandably, he's expecting plenty from the game, and will be expected to challenge at next year's FIWC tournament.

"I can't wait to play FIFA 14. It's the little changes every year that make it better, and I'm sure it will be the same again," he added.

"Hopefully it is a good show for the fans watching."
