Tottenham target not leaving Roma, says agent

Tottenham have been told to cease their efforts to sign AS Roma star Miralen Pjanic after the player's agent confirmed he will remain in Rome for the foreseeable future.

Spurs have been on somewhat of a recruitment drive this summer having already broken their transfer record twice with the signings of Paulinho for £17m and Roberto Soldado for £26m.

They now look set to break it for a third time in a matter of weeks with Brazilian star Willian supposedly in London to seal a £30m switch from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

The spending spree points to what many Spurs fans have feared all summer - Gareth Bale's record-breaking move to Real Madrid is imminent.

Spending over £100m on a plethora of world-class talent will certainly soften the blow of the Welshman's departure but Pjanic will not be part of that influx.

Gerbino told Radio Centro Suono Sport: "What you see in the papers does not matter. The player will not move and will remain in Rome. This is fully confirmed."

The future of Pjanic's team mate Erik Lamela remains up in the air however, with Andre Villas-Boas believed to be keen on a move for the Argentinian.

Roma are believed to be asking for £30m for the midfielder - a fee that Tottenham will have no qualms with parting with if the £93m fee for Bale proves to be accurate.
