Arsenal have launched a £40 million bid for Real Madrid star Karim Benzema, according to The Telegraph.
Sceptics believe that Arsenal will not buy the star, despite Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insisting that he is after top quality players.
The Frenchman moved from Lyon to Madrid in 2009 and has since scored 56 goals in 125 games for the Spanish club. In the 2012/13 season he managed to get 20 goals and 19 assists in 50 appearances, making either a goal or an assist in just under 80% of games played.
It is believed that Madrid could potentially allow Benzema to make the move to the north London club as this would free up money and squad space for Liverpool star Luis Suarez who,it's believed, Madrid want to put into their attack next season.
Options for strikers have been large for the Gunners this summer.
Gonzalo Higuain and Stevan Jovetic were both linked with sensational moves to the Emirates but both decided to join other clubs.
With Luis Suarez looking set to either stay at Liverpool or make a move to Madrid, it would seem that Arsenal will not get the Uruguayan.
Wayne Rooney's future still looks undecided as Arsenal and Chelsea both look to be the main contenders. Benteke signed a new contract at Aston Villa, so his transfer is out of the question, and Michu is being tipped to remain at the Liberty Stadium, so Wenger's list of potential season-altering forwards is running thin indeed.
Nobody quite knows for sure if Suarez to Madrid is still on the cards but if it is, it looks ever more likely that Arsenal could benefit from this by purchasing Karim Benzema.
