Brazil international Willian is one step closer to joining Tottenham after passing his medical, according to Sky Sports News.

The 25-year-old is expected to complete a £30m move to White Hart Lane from Anzhi Makhachkala, although reports claim that the attacking midfielder is still considering his options.

However, if personal terms are agreed with Spurs, Willian will then sign a five-year deal.

Liverpool are also keen on the former Corinthians and Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker, but the Merseyside outfit appear to have lost the race to secure his services.

Tottenham are in the process of bolstering their squad, with Gareth Bale expected to join Real Madrid for a world-record fee in the coming days.

Although different in style, Willian has been identified as the ideal replacement for the Wales star, who enjoyed a stellar campaign at White Hart Lane last term.

As well as the Brazilian, Tottenham have also been linked with a move for AS Roma's talented forward Erik Lamela, as Andre Villas-Boas attempts to ensure Spurs are prepared for life without Bale.
