Bruce Grannec has set his sights on defending the FIFA Interactive World Cup crown after losing his Champions Trophy title to Alfonso Ramos at Gamescom in Cologne.
'The Machine' beat German champion Kai Wollin in the first semi-final at EA's business lounge in Germany, but lost 3-1 to his Spanish rival in the showpiece final after he'd beaten Francisco Cruz in the second semi.
Grannec beat Ramos in the inaugural Champions Trophy final in Vancouver 12 months ago, and then went on to claim his second FIWC crown a couple of months back in Madrid.
However, he was unable to keep his winning streak alive during the first play on FIFA 14. But, rather than being downhearted, the Frenchman was gracious in defeat and looking forward to playing the game even more.
"I am disappointed to lose of course, but Alfonso played a good game in the final and was a worthy winner, so congratulations must go to him," he told GiveMeSport in the aftermath of the defeat.
"It's difficult when playing a new game for the first time, but it's the same for everyone and I did okay. I will look to get better and hopefully defend my FIWC title on FIFA 14 next year."
Despite succumbing to defeat, Grannec was very impressed with the changes made to the latest game in the FIFA franchise, enjoying the subtle differences made by Electronic Arts this time around.
Having enjoyed such unprecedented success on FIFA 13, one of the greatest gamers in history would be forgiven wanting more of the same, but he enjoys the challenge that comes with a newer - and harder - game.
"This version is much harder than last year. You have to think a lot more, which I like. It is difficult to do things quickly, and it plays even more like real football," he concluded.
"The defending has improved and it looks difficult to beat a team with one pass. You have to work the ball into spaces and look to create an opening.
"Players are making intelligent runs as well into the box which is also an improvement. It's only the first time I've played the game, but it's very good."
