The agent of Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner has confirmed that his client has set his sights on a move to Besiktas.

After joining the Premier League champions from Vitesse Arnhem in a €4million deal last summer, the left-back has suffered from homesickness, and as a result failed to force his way into the United first-team.

Buttner made just five league appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012/13, and following the arrival of David Moyes, could be allowed to leave Old Trafford, amid reported interest from Turkey.

"Buttner has wanted to join Beşiktaş from the beginning," confirmed the Dutchman's representative, Aleksander Bursac, in an interview with Renascenca Radio.

"Buttner has been watching the Turkish league and Beşiktaş closely, he was really impressed by the Beşiktaş supporters and knows the club's history.

"He also believes the Turkish league is growing in stature following Galatasaray's run in the Champions League."

With Patrice Evra still Manchester United's undisputed first-choice left-back, Buttner is facing another season on the fringes of the senior squad, and could fall even further down the pecking order if Moyes was to capture the services of Leighton Baines.

In order to avoid another year of limited action in 2013/14, the full-back feels it better to seek pastures new, though a switch to Benfica is not an option after the Portuguese club dropped their interest in his signature.

"I am currently negotiating with Beşiktaş, but with Benfica? No," Bursac added. "Benfica showed interest and then gave up."
