Jose Mourinho has hinted that Brazilian star Willian has opted to join Chelsea over Tottenham.

Spurs were on the verge of tying up a deal for the 25-year-old, who underwent a medical with the north London club earlier this week having seemingly beaten Liverpool to his signature.

Last night the Anzhi Makhachkala player was at Tottenham's training ground and was on the verge of sealing his move to north London. However reports emerged that Chelsea had launched an audacious late move to hijack the deal, and now Mourinho has seemingly confirmed that the player is on his way to Stamford Bridge.

Asked whether he was confident that Willian would choose Chelsea over Spurs he replied: "That’s a good question because I think he already made his decision."

When asked whether Willian had opted for Chelsea he nodded, before adding: "we have to do a medical."

He continued: "That's the danger of medicals before contracts.

"You have to do the medical before, but the best thing to do is to do the medical in secret.

"If the player is fine, you can sign him. If the player is not fine you don't destroy his career."

The news will come as a huge blow to Tottenham, who had hoped to land Willian in order to appease the club's fans over the impending departure of Gareth Bale.

Reports suggest that Willian's decision to snub Spurs could impact on the Welshman's move to Real Madrid, with Spurs unwilling to rubber stamp the deal before they land a replacement.

Spurs have been linked with Roma forward Erik Lamela.
