Manchester City plot Atletico defender move

Manchester City are being linked with a move for Argentine international defender Martin Demichelis.

The Daily Star claims Manuel Pellegrini has set his sights on the Atletico Madrid star, having previously worked with the 32-year-old at Malaga.

Atletico want £5million for the player, according to the paper, although the Citizens value the centre back in the region of £3million.

Demichellis began his professional career at River Plate, before moving to Bayern Munich in 2003. He spent seven years with the Bundesliga giants, before switching to Spain.

Manchester City are facing a defender crisis at the Etihad Stadium, with Vincent Kompany joining Matija Nastasic on the club’s treatment table.

And, with time running out in the transfer window, last season’s Premier League runners-up are not in a good negotiating position.

The paper reports that Manchester City have already had two bids rebuffed for Pepe, and Demichelis now appears to be the club’s best option.
